Meet Gil the Travelling Gecko
Hi, my name is Gil the Travelling Gecko. My full name is Gilgamesh…my parents named me after a great explorer and king from many years ago. All of my friends call me Gil!
I live in an airport and am always travelling to new and exciting places around the world. I simply hide in one of the suitcases that pass by my front door and a few hours later I arrive in a new country. How exciting is that?
Why don’t you join me on my adventures around the world and see through MY eyes what they are like, who lives there, what they eat, how they talk and maybe even meet some new friends?
I want to travel and explore as much as possible because I read a quotation that a really smart person said a long, long time ago;
“The world is a book and if you don’t travel you only get to read one page”
Because I like reading, it kind of made lots of sense to me. Imagine only being able to read the same page over and over again? That would be REALLY boring, wouldn’t it?
Gil the Travelling Gecko aims to do the following in every country he visits:
- See the national flag
- Try their favourite food
- Meet some new friends
- Learn a few words of the language
- Have some adventures and lots of fun
So, anyway…. Here we are, ready for our first adventure together…Come on, we have to dash or we will miss the plane!
Oh, and don’t forget your passport!
The Gil the Travelling Gecko’s series has been created to encourage kids to read stories which they find interesting. Each book introduces a new destination, different foods, some of the local language and sometimes a little culture and history. He meets with friends who show him around the local area and explains things to do there.
At the end of each book is a short quiz about the story.
